Best Drives Near Appleby, Cumbria

South-west of Appleby, Kendal and the Lake District offers stunning views and interesting attractions and if you are looking to test how your van from Eden Commercials runs, there is nowhere better to do it.

Kendal, Grange, Windermere

With stunning lake views and a number of attractions along the way, this drive, beginning in Kendal, will keep you occupied for the entire day. From Kendal to Grange, you can stop at Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall and Gardens.

Continuing from Grange to Windermere, you’ll pass Cartmel, Holker Hall and Gardens and Lakeland Motor Museum and as you drive alongside Lake Windermere, you’ll come across the beautiful Blackwell House.

Kendal, Sedbergh, Arnside

Taking you along the A694 from Kendal to Sedbergh, then south to Kirkby Lonsdale, along to Arnside and on the A6 back to Kendal, this route is full of picturesque sights, including the River Lune, Barbondale Valley and striking architecture.

Windermere Circuit

This relaxing drive takes you all the way around England’s largest lake, Windermere. Start your journey in Ambleside, following the A951 until you reach a roundabout that will take you on to Rayrigg Road and Bowness-on-Windermere. In this bustling town, you’ll find the World of Beatrix Potter.

Continue admiring the beautiful view of the lake as you drive around its southern point, making your way through Graythwaite and Hawkshead on the drive North. Before you arrive back in Ambleside, you may want to stop to visit the spectacular Wray Castle.

Lancaster to Pendle

Make your way from Lancaster to Williamson Park and the Forest of Bowland, enjoying views of the River Lune and the tranquillity of countryside. Head to Clitheroe and once you emerge from the forest, head east toward Pendle Hill, once home to the notorious Pendle Witches.

Windermere, Coniston, Langdale

Take a ferry from Bowness-on-Windermere, drive through Hawkshead and surround yourself with peaceful scenery in Great Langdale. There are so many places to park up and take in the gorgeous views or take a relaxing walk.
