Ford Transit Custom Nugget Introduced

The Ford Transit is without doubt the most popular van in the UK, they’re adored thanks to their dependable nature and affordability.

Following the success of the original model, an entire family of Transits have been released to ensure that drivers with any requirements are catered for, including the Ford Transit Custom, Ford Transit Connect and Ford Transit Courier.

A market that Ford has not yet infiltrated with its Transit however, is the campervan segment. That market has long been controlled by Volkswagen with the Transporter (converted of course) or the purpose-built California. Having either of these on your drive is sure to earn you a bucket load of envy points from your neighbours and a nod of approval from any passer-by.

Ford now wants in on this lucrative market though and to tackle the big German, they’ve created the Nugget! Yes, the Nugget is Ford’s own converted Transit Custom. It started life as a minibus, but ditched the extra seats in favour of a kitchenette and a spacious extendable roof that hides a double bedroom. Upon first glance you may conclude that it isn’t anywhere near as spacious as the equivalent from Volkswagen, and that is largely down to the Transit’s party piece: an indoor toilet! Further plumbing comes in the form of an outdoor shower.

A choice of two diesel engines are available with up to 168bhp on offer. All the usual tech bits are included, from Ford’s SYNC media to adaptive cruise control and a reversing camera.

Further details are yet to be released by the American giant, including the price. It is unclear whether or not the Ford Transit Custom Nugget will undercut its German rivals, or if it will rely on ability alone to beat them and steal a piece of their pie that is the campervan market!
