Toyota Hilux Review

If you are considering choosing a used Toyota Hilux van, read on to find out if it’s the right option for you...

The Toyota Hilux is well known in the commercial market, a dependable workhouse that gained worldwide recognition for surviving a series of increasingly ludicrous ‘challenges’ from none other than Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

The Hilux comes in a variety of trims, from top-spec Invincible X Limited Edition to Icon to Active. Each vehicle comes with a generous amount of standard kit including, Hill-start assist, trailer sway control and auto headlights. This means you can buy any Hilux with confidence knowing that you aren’t going to be stuck with poor-spec pickup!

The Toyota Hilux has a robust interior as you’d expect, but the finish is more typical of one of its passenger cars. Sturdy feeling fixtures and narrow and uniform gaps between the panels are well appreciated in a workhorse such as this. A commanding seating position gives you a superior feeling when surveying the road, ample storage can be found around the cabin, including a front cooler box.

The current generation of Toyota Hilux vans has a much larger load bay and a greater towing capacity than the model it replaced, improvements which have made it even better suited for a life of work! In fact, the pickup is bigger in every sense, but this still leaves it on par with most rivals. Width is where Toyota has made the biggest strides, offering an extra 130mm; trumping the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200 vans.

The driving experience offered by Toyota Hilux vans has improved in all areas over the previous model, however you still know you’re driving a commercial vehicle. The 2.4-litre diesel 4 pot is all new for the Toyota Hilux, offering exceptional amounts of torque from very low revs. There are more powerful trucks out there, but none mix economy and pulling power like this!
