Volkswagen Caddy Review
If you are considering choosing one of our used Volkswagen Caddy vans, read on to find out if it is the right vehicle for the job…
Volkswagen is among the most respected van manufacturers in the world. The brand offers commercial vehicles of the highest quality, with a focus on driver comfort, so it’s easy to see why they’re one of the bestselling commercial vehicle producers.
The Volkswagen Caddy is a compact panel van that competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz Titan and Ford Transit Connect. It entered the market in 2015 and has remained there since, benefiting from some midlife TLC. The Caddy is available in a range of specs, from long wheel base to 7-seat variants, so the little VW is capable of catering to any lifestyle and job.
There’s a decent range of diesel and petrol engines in the Caddy line, all of which meet Euro 6 emissions standards. The diesel line-up comprises three versions of a 2.0 TDI engine producing 74bhp, 101bhp and 148bhp respectively. The two more powerful units can be matched with a dual-clutch automated gearbox, while the entry-level diesel is manual only. The story is repeated with a trio of 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines, with auto an option on the bigger engine only.
The premium interior and impressive build quality mean that you can expect this model to last, so used Volkswagen Caddy vans are a perfectly reliable option.
Three different trim levels determine the level of standard kit you find included. The range kicks off with the Startline, which includes Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, a five-inch touchscreen display with DAB radio and electric windows and mirrors. The range-topping Caddy Highline comes with Volkswagen’s Discover Media Navigation system, fog lamps, auto headlamps and alloy wheels.
Two wheelbase options (2,681mm in the standard van and 3,006mm in the Maxi) produce load volumes of 3.2m3 or 4.2m3 in the Volkswagen Caddy. There’s no high roof option so the van can’t quite match the biggest cargo spaces in the compact van class but a maximum payload of 857kg is competitive.
